ghanaian afro funk and boogie from sidiku buari is the focus of the next soundway 12”. the two tracks are taken from an obscure 12” release from 1983 that unfortunately had a pressing defect on “anokwar”, so with some twiddling and editing hide & smile have restored it ready for some overdue dance-floor use once again.

the berlin-based producer is kicking off his label with a four-track single. while he is perhaps not as name-checked as some of the hardware hawking house heads of modern times, arttu snellman has been working hard at gritty box jams for a good few years now. he first appeared under his arttu guise in 2011 with the nuclear funk and fear diluted singles on royal oak and philpot respectively, and then proceeded to wheel out tunes for 4 lux and chiwax over the ensuing years. prior to the tough-edged pump of his current ventures, you could find snellman indulging in a more laptop-centric kind of practice under the name lump. this more minimalistic, glitchy house fodder could be found on labels such as karloff, morris/audio and süd electronic amongst many others. back in the here and now though, arttu was last spotted on clone jack for daze earlier this year with the rave dogz 12”, and next up he’s taking matters into his own hands. existing fans of arttu will be more than pleased with the heavyweight, crunchy tackle that inhabits cyblo01. this is dynamic business with same heft found on previous releases from snellman, mixed in with the cheeky flair that has always marked his productions out in a crowded marketplace.

it is the year 2016, and the easy money remix series is even more back than it was last year! the outside agency - in their still ongoing quest to obtain the most speedboats - have sourced yet another batch of remixes from their friends for the highly anticipated follow-up to 2015 s easy money remix ep 2. deathmachine, detest and fracture 4 are the next three artists to deliver their undoubtedly smashing renditions of their favourite tracks by the outside agency. the deathmachine remix is epically epic (and 9 minutes long), the detest remix is lightning fast and the fracture 4 remix is depressingly slow. again, highly recommend by speedboat salesmen everywhere!

the original move your butty (1992) gained cult status and the time seems right for a re-release of this gem. it was originally out on the legendary london based irdial records. thee j johanz decided to replace samples with synths, which gave him the freedom to create a totally fresh and moody remix, good enough to keep our buttys moving for the next 20 years. the strings of the elka synthex give you wings, while the typical move your butty bassline is pumpin you up. expect the unexpected from prins thomas remix: very refreshing funky eighties electro vibes, or is it the sound of the future? an original approach with an oasis of move your butty references in the middle. an excellent remix of the remix

next up on titanic city is stephen lopkin, who serves up five new cuts on the strategic reserve ep. stephen is a massive talent and has really turned heads over the last couple of years with releases on m>o>s, bokhari records, and raw tools. needles to say were delighted to have lopkin on board

new emmanuel top label. lost in berlin is a mechanical angry monster with multiple arms that swings around for destruction. it’s unstoppable for words, you have to accept the fact that you have been hit by a concrete wall. what i love in records is the menace inside it that builds up. the impossible energy that drags you in to this tunnel of a white dimension with grey electric colors. bipolaire: it all starts with a kick, not a simple kick but a et kick and before you know it you are struck by lightning. the subs are playing with you, simple but again with atomic temperature. the acid sound that hits you is never going to surrender his inferior temper. capture: only that words remind me of the spirit capture and it’s not easy make an equivalent of the original that is not even made with the inspiration of the mod wheel. it’s not just a wicked intro that can take you to different roads. you can decide what way you will take but be careful with what comes next.

jumpmono records is back with the next instalment of vinyl/digital mayhem! this time we welcome the super talented italian techno brothers, mr. bizz, with their superb single crescendo. mr. bizz have been making some serious noise across the techno scene over the past few years with their releases landing on labels including, cocoon, sci+tec, octopus, suara and many more... so it was inevitable that we would invite them to release on jumpmono. first up on remix duty is techno legend, koen groeneveld, who provides a powerful peak time monster. the second remix comes from none other than alex di stefano, with his amazing, harder techno sound. the third remix is a huge techno slammer and comes from holland s incredibly talented, steve mulder.

this ep is the second part of a trilogy that neue grafik began with -pris- on the label beat x changers. the next and last ep of the series coming up on this label will be -the end of the replicant stories-. for the moment, are out :­ pris (a basic pleasure model) ­ roy (nexus 6 who killed is creator) like roy, batty said to himself: -it s not an easy thing to meet your maker-. the music on this ep is about anger, acceptation, love and complicated relationships with fathers. there is a lot of references to african roots, legends and to neue grafik s deep feelings for the city of paris.

end of dayz 009 is by the mysterious 30drop. his works are described by himself as detroit techno inspired music mixed with repetitive european techno. in this release -on the next day ep- we find on a side the terror history called -they saw it again- and the jeroen search remix that is a very danceable rhythmic techno with some cosmic stuff. the b side is for -raw- where we can listen to some space bells. here is the remix by an old friend of this label, p.e.a.r.l., bringing the track into a darker place.

hot off a couple of 12” from topher horn, rocksteady disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more well-known editors. pontchartrain leads the release off with a summer-inspired aural prozac number, just in time for this june release. next up is notorious detroit editor lafleur, busting out this original milky-smooth detroit boogie house production. a slight little rearrangement from rocksteady disco label boss peter croce makes this one a bit smoother for the djs. lyon, france’s g2s kicks off the flip with a big-bottomed stomper reminiscent of some mcde ‘raw cuts’. pontchartrain book-ends this release with a track that puts the ‘rocksteady’ in rocksteady disco, with heavy analog-meets-electro drum programming and complete with pontchartrain on vocoder duties. hand numbered edition of 500 copies with dl code.

one of the founding members of apollonia, shonky was responsible for his label’s very first release back in 2012 with ‘the minneapolis touch’. outside of working on the trio’s debut lp ‘tour a tour’, shonky has been relatively quiet on the solo tip. here on apollonia’s 25th release we’re treated to four new cuts from the berlin-based parisian, kicking off with plombie&#768,,re (plumber in english). shonky injects a variety of unusual sounds, which revolve around a jaunty bassline, while voices dip in and out of the background, repeating the mantra ‘house music’ together with other difficult to decipher vocal clips. the track has a catchy rhythm that bounces along with aplomb. up next ‘house me’ is a sleazy, mischievous cut with a deadly low end and a seductive vocal that urges you to ‘house me’. as the bassline rumbles, high pitched effects add a hypnotic element to the track. badboy business.on the b-side we have ‘perchee’, which is powered by cleverly layered percussion, which is almost ‘live’ sounding. another one of those ‘shonky’ basslines gets us straight into the groove, with utterly contagious beats – this is one to shake the dance floor down its core. finally, ‘cosmopolis’ has that inner city realness flowing through with the chatter of a street corner in the background, a killer b-line and one of those classic vocal samples that is oh so familiar and gets you nodding your head as soon as you hear it. and there it is, four dance floor cuts with plenty of depth and groove in true shonky style… c est formidable!
